Description

Roshi Bodhin Kjolhede: Friday Interfaith Lecture

Roshi Bodhin Kjolhede [pronounced “BODE’n COAL-heed”] is a Zen Buddhist priest and Abbot of the Rochester Zen Center. Born in Michigan in 1948, he received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In 1971 he entered what would become a 15-year course of residential training at the Rochester Zen Center under Roshi Philip Kapleau, the Center’s founder, who ordained him in 1976.

In 1987, after completing his koan training and a 9-month pilgrimage through Japan, mainland China, and Taiwan, Roshi Kjolhede was installed by Roshi Kapleau as his Dharma-successor and Abbot of the Center. Since then he has conducted meditation retreats throughout the United States, as well as in Sweden, Mexico, and Germany. Most of Roshi Kjolhede’s time is now devoted to the Rochester Zen Center and its country retreat center in nearby Batavia
