Dr. Leonore Tiefer's interest in the behavioral sciences began with her dissertation in hamster mating behavior at U.C. Berkeley. Concerned with the women's liberation movement in the 1970s, she co-founded the Fort Collins, Colorado chapter of the National Organization for Women. Dr. Tiefer co-directed the Sex Therapy Clinic at Downstate Medical Center in New York. Her next position was as psychologist in the Department of Urology at Beth Israel Medical Center.In 1999, she founded the Campaign for a New View of Women's Sexual Problems to attempt to change the traditional medicalization of women's sexual problems. Currently, Dr. Tiefer is the Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine, has a private psychotherapy practice, and continues working for the Campaign.
